Professor Sujit Choudhry is well known around the world and is considered a scholar (law.nyu.edu). He researches anything from constitutional law and politics to constitutional courts. he has just written a peace on the former Attorney General under President Obama Eric Holder. Eric sent out a tweet regarding the firing of Bob Mueller calling it crossing the red line. Sujit explains that is shocking that someone who held a seat that was the embodiment of upholding law, is now expecting the people of the country to protest. Holding them accountable without even mentioning a legal attempt to get the outcome Holder is looking for.
Focal points are important to democracy for example, Presidents can not serve more than two terms. Trying to run again or making it so elections cant take place is breaking those focal points. This is called democratic failure, when the leader of the free world decides to seize the power without being told they can. When this happens and focal points are broken this allows people to call upon the citizens to take control and over turn the government in the name of democracy.
Sujit Choudhry makes it clear that the political sphere our country is in right now is leading down the road of breaking democracy. It may come down to the citizens of the US to take control. The time to call a spade a spade is now and if the legal system wont do it the people will more than likely take the streets. So that they can be seen and heard just like the constitution says we should be.
Sujit Choudhry has been a constitutional adviser for over twenty years, and works to create public dialog. Along with that he has helped over five countries create constitutions (http://constitutionaltransitions.org/director/#Choudhry). Sujit has written close to one-hundred article and books over the years. It’s safe to say he knows what he’s doing, and that we should really listen to what he has to say. His explanation of focal points and where we are politically in the US is very in depth.
