Roc Nation’s Chief Operating Officer (COO) since its founding in 2009 has been Desiree “Des” Perez, a name that may not be familiar to some. Perez enjoys keeping it that way, preferring to stay out of the public eye as much as possible. While keeping her personal life private is important to Des, it is becoming increasingly difficult as she is recognized for her work.
Perez was recently recognized for her work in the music industry by Billboard Magazine. The magazine named her as one of the most influential women in music in a late 2017 article. The recognition has been a long time coming for the music executive and entrepreneur as she has quietly been a force to be reckoned with for many years.
Desiree started off her entrepreneurial career as a highly successful night club manager in her native New York City. She also managed a number of entertainment venues and became a booking agent for several music and entertainment stars. It was during this time that Perez became close friend and business partners with rap mogul Jay-Z who hired her to run his SC Enterprises.
In 2009 Jay-Z disbanded SC Enterprises and launched his new conglomerate, Roc Nation, naming Perez as COO. In this capacity Perez has been a major player in the music industry and was the main negotiator for Roc Nation. Over the next 10 years the company has grown year-over-year and is presently one of the largest entertainment conglomerates in the world.
Perez has negotiated a number of big deals for the company over the past decade. She was nominated in 2015 for a Primetime Emmy award for her work as the producer of the “On the Run Tour” of Jay-Z and Beyoncé. She is currently getting ready to launch the “On the Run 2 Tour” in the summer of 2018.
