Susan McGalla’s story is like a Hollywood hit. Born and raised in East Liverpool, Ohio, McGalla was always interested in business. Her father, a local football coach, taught her the value of hard work. After graduating from Mount Union College, she immediately joined the workforce.
Throughout her career, MaGalla has excelled in ways no woman before had. Most notably, she served as President of American Eagle Outfitters Inc. She also served as CEO of Wet Seal Inc. Currently, McGalla sits on the board of a publicly traded commercial real estate services company, HFF Inc. She also sits on the board of the Magee-Women’s Hospital Research Institute and Foundation. McGalla’s first job was at Joseph Horne Company. She worked various marketing and managerial positions for nearly ten years. In 1994, she left Joseph Horne and joined American Eagle Outfitters. She started out as a divisional merchandise buyer for women’s clothing. Later on, she began working more managerial roles.
It wasn’t long after that till she was named President and Chief Merchandising Officer. Originally, she was named President and CMO of one of the company’s flagship brands, American Eagle. In 2009, McGalla left American Eagle and became a private consultant. She worked with dozens of retail and financial investment industries nowadays. HFF named her to the Board of Directors in October of 2009.
